Denmark is preparing for a significant change in its e-invoicing framework.

The Danish Business Authority has recently announced the OIOUBL 3.0 invoice package as a 'release candidate,' which introduces a series of updates to transform e-invoicing standards across the country. The final release is scheduled for April 10, 2025. OIOUBL 3.0 will complement Peppol BIS 3.0 as one of Denmark's two national e-invoicing standards.

This updated framework includes enhanced specifications for invoices, credit notes, and invoice response messages. A key feature of this update is the introduction of separate processes for managing invoice responses. Companies must now facilitate two-way communication, differentiating between technical confirmations (which acknowledge receipt) and content-related confirmations (which validate the information on the invoice).

Key Compliance Dates for Transition

The Danish Business Authority has outlined a comprehensive implementation schedule:

  • **Release Candidate Access:** Development and testing can begin immediately.
  • **Final Release Date:** April 10, 2025.
  • **Required Compliance:** OIOUBL 3.0 will be mandatory starting November 15, 2025.
  • **OIOUBL 2.1 Phase-Out:** Support for the existing version will end on May 15, 2026.
