SAP implementation and optimization

Business Challenge

An integrated, well implemented ERP-system enables each company to boost efficiency and effectiveness of its operational processes and provides valuable insights on how a company can be optimized in terms of profitability, productivity and success in the market.

This, however, requires each ERP-system to be continuously fine-tuned according to the specific requirements of each company, branch and country.

What Phenix Consulting offers for SAP implementation and optimization

All of our consultants have a proven track record in implementing and optimizing SAP ERP at a broad variety of customers and industries.

Our service offering ranges from optimizing the benefits of existing SAP installations through to full life-cycle implementations. Our deep business- and IT-expertise is complemented by our extensive project management and development services.

Our team of internationally-experienced consultants will design and implement a solution that best fits your company’s size, complexity and industry.

Workflow optimization

Business Challenge

SAP offers a powerful, built-in tool to automate and speed up transactional processes like invoice verification or payment approval.

This workflow functionality enables organizations to significantly increase efficiency and effectiveness within their transactional processes.

However, by its very nature of being a standard tool, the SAP workflow functionality cannot cover all of a company’s requirements. Hence the usual implementation of workflow typically results in a combination of SAP functionality combined with external tools or third-party service providers.

What Phenix Consulting offers on workflow optimization

Our service offering comprises the end-to-end implementation of a tailor-made workflow architecture involving SAP and third party products.

This includes requirements analysis, business blueprints, tool selection, implementation and go-live. Furthermore we ensure that all relevant legal requirements – particularly related to invoice archiving – are addressed.

We also act as a product-independent advisor and combine our business knowledge, intellectual capital and technical implementation capabilities to ensure our solution best meets our client’s needs.

Business Intelligence

The usage of business intelligence (BI) tools is vital for organizations, of all sizes and in all industries, to help them to respond to the rapidly changing business, social and economic world.

BI-tools help companies gain deeper insight into their business by merging data from various sources with comprehensive and flexible dashboard reporting often with a familiar Excel user-experience.

Business Challenge

However the design of an integrated BI-architecture that doesn’t consider a range of key factors can lead to significant issues and increase of both the time and resources to implement a solution and additional on-going running costs and reduced functionality.

The factors to be considered when designing a BI system include:

  • Architecture – Many organizations implement BI-tools specific to individual requirements. This leads to a fragmented system and data environment resulting in increased IT costs, multiple/incompatible/inconsistent data sources, significant reconciliation issues, poor perception of IT systems by business functions and difficulty in responding quickly to business-driven changes. Each organization must develop a clear BI-strategy and architecture to avoid these problems.
  • Content - A comprehensive, consistent and clear definition and documentation of business requirements and content must be established before setting up any BI-solution
  • Technology - When considering the functional and non-functional requirements - as well as integration into the business’s current architecture - the best technological platform has to be selected. This selection should consider SAP’s BW/BI roadmap towards HANA and ERP integration. Finally the technology choice must allow further expansion and changed functionality to ensure the systems keep pace with the business
  • Cost - The costs of the initial implementation, on-going operations, maintenance, licensing, training and further enhancements all poses a significant cost factor and must be considered from the outset.

What Phenix Consulting offers on Business Intelligence

Phenix Consulting provides a full, one-stop shop for your BI requirements.

We provide architectural advice on all the key factors outlined above, develop the business requirements with you and then implement a SAP-based BI (e.g. SAP BW, BO, SEM, HANA) all the way through to warranty and hand-over to the business.

This implementation can also be carried out in combination with COGNOS, SAS or Microsoft if required.

SAP Development Support

Business Challenge

Many companies need specific functionality in their SAP systems tailored to their own requirements. Satisfying these requirements usually can only be covered through the use of SAP programming resources which are often in short supply in a company, if at all.

What Phenix Consulting offers on SAP Development

Support Phenix Consulting have built up a dedicated team of SAP developers that have supported our clients across a wide range of engagements.

The scope of their work has ranged from development of forms and reports to interfaces and functional enhancements to add-on products.

Our developers are experts in SAP FI and CO functionality, implemented across a range of clients, and have a deep understanding of business processes and requirements.

Cash management & liquidity management

Business Challenge

Cash and liquidity management is becoming more and more critical to each organization. However, many companies do not take full advantage of their SAP system’s capabilities and often run their processes and reporting on a semi-automatic, spreadsheet-based approach.

SAP offers an entire toolkit of functions related to cash-management branded under their financial supply chain management toolset:

  • Liquidity reporting and planning (cash position, liquidity forecasting, liquidity planner and Business Planning & Consolidation – BPC)
  • Optimization of available cash (in-house cash)
  • Facilitation and automation of cash-related transactions including Electronic Bank Statement and Bank Communications Management)

More specific requirements, including loans management or hedge accounting, SAP’s treasury and risk management solution (SAP TRM) are available.

Most of the cash management functions can be implemented independently which allows a business to select first the most suitable functionality for them and also reduces the time, resource and risk during implementation

What Phenix Consulting offers on Cash & Liquidity Management

Our recommended approach is to start with small, distinct functional packages (e.g. Cash position, bank statement) and – once proven successful - implement subsequent add-ons.

This approach ensures our clients are not driven by the functionality of their current systems but instead develop and follow a sound roadmap towards an integrated cash- and liquidity management.

Consolidation optimization

Business Challenge

SAP has developed and acquired a suite of tools used for the consolidation of financial results for internal and external reporting. Each of these tools differs in terms of functionality, complexity and cost including:

  • EC-CS (ERP-based)
  • SEM-BCS (BW-based)
  • BPC (ex-OutlookSoft)
  • BO-FC (ex-Carthesis Magnitude)

The first challenge for each client is to understand which solution is a best fit in terms of requirements, available budget and sustainability.

After this tool selection has been done, however, specific consolidation expertise is required to fine-tune the application and to ensure continuity of the reporting of group financial statements.

What Phenix Consulting offers on consolidation optimization

We have extensive expertise with all four of the SAP consolidation products. We are fully independent from any SAP resellers to prevent any conflict of interest. This ensures that the chosen tool is the one that best fits our client’s requirements.

Financial Intercompany optimization

Business Challenge

The increase in company acquisitions, globalization and an ongoing trend to outsource business functions (such as IT or accounting) results in a growing number of intercompany transactions (IC).

Intercompany transactions, and their impact on transfer pricing and a business’s tax liabilities, are also coming under increased international scrutiny.

In theory, the booking, exchange, reconciliation and settlement of IC transactions is a process that could be highly automated as, in most cases, master data (e.g. chart of accounts, cost centers, AP/AR), process governance and even the SAP-application itself are harmonized on both the provider and receiver side.

Practically, however, most companies have developed their own semi-automated - or even manual - solutions to deal with their IC processes.

What Phenix Consulting offers on Intercompany optimization

We have developed an approach to fully automate the intercompany process within one or multiple SAP-systems and have proven its feasibility at various, multinational organizations.
